Opening Thoughts
I am writing this on Sunday Night shortly after DraftKings posted their pricing: Wow is all I can say. We have a range of Justin Thomas at 15,400 to Charles Howell III at 5,000. On DraftKings, there will be positional scoring, so Justin Thomas will start with 30 points as the leader of the tournament. That is it: no additional points to get to -10, -8, etc... Here was my question to DraftKings and their response if this helps
My initial thoughts are to not factor in starting position. I think I want to treat this as a normal event, and choose the players who fit the course the best. I may factor in starting position very slightly, but I don't think I will weigh it as heavily as others do.
In my opinion, this is one of two events (Hero World Challenge being the other) where contest selection is more important than usual. With only 30 golfers and each user choosing six golfers, there are only a certain number of combinations. If you're not playing the maximum or close to the maximum amount of entries allowed for a contest, I would avoid it. I am not playing in any 20-max or 150-max contests with my single lineup this week. I will only play in the $8 5-max because it has the best payout structure of any contest on DraftKings. I will reserve my lineups to single-entry and 3-max, meaning I won't be playing a normal bankroll. Also, leaving significant salary on the table will be a way to help make yourself unique and is something to consider. This is going to be such an odd week with the unique scoring and pricing that a small amount of money in play is my ideal strategy. I would advise you think about this when deciding how much and what to play. Finally, there will be no Wednesday Update this week or during the Fall Swing.events, so plan accordingly.
